The Performance Monitor uses objects and counters as measurement points An object is a measurable resource within the computer For example, the four primary resources of CPU, memory, disk, and NIC are all objects Within each object, there are several measurements that can be taken Each measurement is referred to as a counter For example, the % Processor Time is a counter within the Processor object (CPU) In Exercise 114, you will launch the Performance Monitor and view some basic counters

System These have been created and are included within the Reliability and Performance Monitor You can run these at any time and view the corresponding report to get an idea of your system s performance User defined These are defined by you You can create a data collector set completely from scratch or create it from a template Three predefined templates exist: Basic, System Diagnostics, and System Performance
