In fact, the argument that code should dictate whether or not a circle is an ellipse seems to me to be 100 percent backward. A circle is an ellipse, and if your code doesn t support that fact, then there s something wrong with your code. By the way, treating circles as ellipses is not only logically correct, it s positively desirable in the context of (at least) spatial or temporal data.
